More and more people are beginning to wonder if electric vehicles could be a viable option for their daily commute. After all, they're less expensive to maintain, they have less moving parts, and they're good for the environment. However, when it comes down to it, not everyone is convinced about making the switch to EVs yet. For mass adoption to occur, drivers still need to feel confident in both cost and performance.
Lack of Charging Infrastructure
The major concern for EV adoption in the US in 2021 was lack of charging infrastructure. This is closely tied to the other barrier of driving range, as consumers want to feel confident that they can go on long drives without having to frequently stop at a charging station.
EV drivers residing in the Northeastern United States were asked whether they thought there were enough charging stations available, 83% of respondents believed that there were not enough (Drive Change Drive Electric).
On top of this concern, 8 out of 10 people surveyed said they had concerns about how far you can drive an electric vehicle before needing to recharge it (Drive Change Drive Electric).
There just aren't enough charging stations out there yet. That's a problem that's only going to continue to get worse as more and more people are buying electric cars. The rising demand of electric vehicles will require more and more charging locations.
