Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Tax Credit
Tax Credit of up to 30% of the total EV Charging Station project cost, not to exceed $30K.
The Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Tax Credit has been retroactively extended through December 31, 2020. Both home residential and commercial "For-Profit" businesses are eligible to apply for.
NOTE: This incentive originally expired on December 31, 2016, but was retroactively extended through December 31, 2020, by Public Law 116-94.
What does this mean to you or your company?
- New or Upcoming EV Charging Projects - if you are considering installing an EV Charging Station in 2020, you will likely be able to take advantage of this tax credit, as long as you purchase and install the EV charging station(s) by 12/31/20.
- Previously Completed EV Charging Station Projects - projects completed between January 1st, 2017 and 12/31/20 are eligible for the tax credit.
If you are extending consideration towards purchasing and installing an Electrical Vehicle Charging station(s) in 2020, your project will likely qualify under this federal tax credit and likely be in addition to local incentive funds that you may be eligible to apply for. Or, you may be able to take advantage of the tax credit for a prior purchase and installation of an EV charging station, dating back to 1/1/17. We recommend consulting with your tax professional to verify and confirm your eligibility.
